Founded as fertile farmland and a way station on the Butterfield and Overland stage routes, Murrieta today has become a first class city which prides itself on being one of the safest communities in the United States. Residents enjoy the finest recreation amenities, a new Town Square housing City Hall, the Police Department, Senior Center and Library, a Historic Downtown that reflects the western heritage of this classic American city, and brand name shopping at several regional shopping centers right in their own backyards.
